Megastars’ astonishing rapport is film’s chief value; ordinary script and direction slaughter the sleep. Cast includes Bob Wish, Katharine Hepburn, James Robertson Due process, Robert i-Ielpmann, and David Kossoff. (87 minutes, 1956)

Meteor: Switzerland, Hong Kong, and Manhattan all get a large piece of the stone while a mammoth meteor comes crashing to the planet. Late entry in Hollywood’s catastrophe cycle trashes fine cast with boring script, shoddy outcomes. Cast includes Sean Connery, Natalie Wood, Karl Malden, Brian Keith, Henry Fonda, Martin Landau, Trevor Howard, and Richard Dysart. (103 minutes, 1979)

American Beauty: Lester Burnham has just about had it with his life. His family has become dysfunctional, and he hates his job. He finally quits his job, and begins to reinvent himself. He is right at the point where things are looking better and tragedy strikes.

Night Must Fall: Renowned film of Evelyn Williams’ suspenseful play. A youthful lady Russell gradually learns the identity of a bizarre fierce slaughterer terrorizing god’s country. Montgomery has a flamboyant role that’s occasionally stagy although commonly a powerful film, with momentous help from Russell. Cast includes Robert Montgomery, Rosalind Russell, Girl Might Whitty, Alan Marshal, and Beryl Mercer. (117 minutes, 1937)

The Abominable Dr. Phibes: This is an old cheesy horror flick with horror icon Vincent Price playing the eccentric Dr. Phibes. After losing his wife to an unsuccessful surgery, Dr. Phibes dies in a car wreck. Or does he? Everyone is baffled as the surgeons who fail to save Mrs. Phibes are all dying. Vincent Price, Joseph Cotten, Peter Jeffrey, and Hugh Griffith fill out the cast. (1971 Horror/Comedy)

Airport: Weak, later Laurel and Hardy comedy. One conceivably excellent scene with dull-burn master Kennedy doesn’t meet anticipations. Cast includes Stan Laurel, Oliver Hardy, Edgar Kennedy, Jacqueline White, Horace Stephen McNally, and Donald Modest. (67 minutes, 1943)

Blood Diamond: In the 1990’s Sierra Leone was a very dangerous place. The Rebels were battling with the army, and there were mass killings. Many people were taken and forced to work in the diamond fields. This is the story of one such man, who was removed from his family, and saw his son become a rebel killer. With the acquisition of one huge diamond, he buys his freedom, and brings his family back together, and out of Africa.
