If Starting A Law Firm Consider The iPhone

by Christopher Small on January 31, 2010

It may not seem like it until you actually get into it, but starting a business involves a lot of touch choices. And starting a law firm is no different. One of the choices you’re going to have to make is what kind of a cell phone you are going to use. Technology can save you a lot of money, and making the right choice is important. Read on to see what I did.

Before I begin, let me tell you a little bit about myself. I’m 29 years old. I’ve run my law firm for just a little over 6 months. Before that I was an attorney at various law firms and governmental agencies. I grew up on Sesame Street and Nintendo. I consider myself on the outskirts of Generation Y. Because of this I am comfortable with new technology and excited to use it.

I think the iPhone is the perfect compliment to a new business for a few different reasons. First, it gives you instant access to your email and calendar. This gives you the up to the second information that you so desperately need in today’s fast paced world. As a lawyer, it also allows you to put away that cumbersome paper calendar. Judges have become pretty used to seeing phones in the courtroom, making it even less of a problem.

Second, the iPhone’s internet experience is second to none. They’ve set it up so your internet experience is identical to what you would be doing at home or at the office. It makes finding things you need quickly. It also makes killing time waiting for your case to be called easy.

The last reason I like the iPhone over others is the coolness factor. It’s hard not to admit that the iPhone, as far as phones go, is a pretty cool little gadget. You can check your email, play games, update your Facebook status, listen to your music, read the New York Times, tweet, and find the nearest Starbucks. This is what really drives it above the rest.

Learning how to start a law firm takes a lot of discipline, a lot of guts, and a little luck. Help yourself stay on task, go for the gold, and increase the opportunities for luck with an iPhone. It will make your law firm run more productively, give you infinite information at your fingertips, and ultimately change your life.

Couldn’t agree more. I had a Blackberry, but it wasn’t until after I got the iPhone that I saw how much remote working was possible.
